‘Voices Against Violence’ is a new choir for anyone who wants to have a go at singing, there is no audition and all abilities are welcome. The project was started by Safer Merthyr Tydfil in response to ideas from young people already involved in their work supporting survivors of domestic abuse. The “CREA8” and “Comets & Rockets” programmes provide group and one to support to children and young people who have been affected by domestic abuse.
Amy Grainger who has led on the CREA8 project said ‘the aim is to improve confidence and self esteem and get people singing and laughing together. It’s not just a wonderful choir it’s a chance for people to meet and make friends and have fun. One day soon we hope the whole of Merthyr will be singing with us.’
The choir is open to members of the community age 10+ and we are really keen for more people to get involved. Rehearsals are on a Wednesday between 5.30 – 7pm at the Voluntary Action Centre, Pontmorlais, Merthyr Tydfil. For more information contact Amy at Safer Merthyr Tydfil on 01685 353999 or email ag@smt.org.uk
The money to start up the choir came from the Crystal Trophy Award which was awarded to Safer Merthyr Tydfil for their work supporting survivors of domestic abuse.
