Safer Merthyr Tydfil is delighted in being awarded a grant from BBC Children In Need. The 3 year grant will provide specialised services for children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse, increasing their emotional wellbeing, have more positive family relationships and be better able to cope with their experiences.
Julie Beck, Domestic Abuse Services Manager at Safer Merthyr Tydfil said:”The grant will allow us to deliver this invaluable support reaching an age group where currently there are very few services and is unique in the sense that the support for children is designed to address the cause of their issues rather than treat behaviours displayed.”
“Through therapeutic support, children can process and understand their experiences and can learn to manage relationships and conflicts in more appropriate ways, relating positively to peers and developing fulfilling relationships.”
“Our aim is to support children and young people to feel safer and more able to cope with day to day life, have increased aspirations and opportunities to achieve their full potential and experience increased awareness of healthy relationships, reducing the risk of them becoming future victims or perpetrators of domestic abuse.”
