Voluntary Action Merthyr Tydfil (VAMT) announces the release of ‘Because We Weren’t There…’This film was developed with Merthyr Tydfil’s Third Sector Leaders’ Forum – a group facilitated by VAMT, showcasing the important role that voluntary organisations play in supporting local people and strengthening communities across Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. It was produced by Merthyr Valleys Homes on behalf of the sector.
The film highlights the wide range of support provided by voluntary and community groups and organisations, including helping vulnerable residents, and tackling social isolation, to creating opportunities for young people, and improving wellbeing across Merthyr Tydfil.
Through powerful stories and real-life examples, the film demonstrates how voluntary organisations are vital to communities, often stepping in where support is needed most.
Sharon Richards, Chief Officer at VAMT, said:
“Voluntary organisations are the backbone of our communities. This video celebrates the incredible work they do every day and recognises the difference they make to people’s lives across Merthyr Tydfil.”
The video also aims to raise awareness of the sector’s impact and encourage more people to get involved, whether through volunteering, partnerships, or community support.
Crucially the film encourages funders and commissioners to put the voluntary sector on an equal footing with statutory services by providing longer term contracts and more certainty around vital service provision.
The film will be broadcast at the opening of Gofod 3, the largest conference for voluntary sector organisations in Wales, run by WCVA (Wales Council for Voluntary Action).
Dr. Lindsay Cordery-Bruce, Chief Executive at WCVA , said:
“What would happen without our awesome voluntary organisations and volunteers in Wales? This is a question I’ve been asking since I took up the role of WCVA Chief Executive. This incredible video highlights just how vital the voluntary sector is to our communities in Wales. We’re urging decision makers to really think about the impact on these organisations when making policy and funding decisions.”
The film is now available to watch online and will be shared widely with partners, stakeholders across Merthyr Tydfil, Wales and as far as we can reach.
