Merthyr Tydfil CBC with partners Safer Merthyr Tydfil was officially granted White Ribbon Town Status on 25th November 2014 in recognition for demonstrating their commitment to the aims of the White Ribbon Campaign that promotes men ending violence against women.
The White Ribbon Town Status is for Councils demonstrating their commitment to the aims of the White Ribbon Campaign (WRC) by:
- Involving men and boys in prevention activities; by mobilising men, the anti-violence against women and girls message increases in effectiveness and reach.
- Addressing and altering social norms that lead to violent behaviour against women.
- Increasing awareness on the issue and providing services aimed at reducing the incidence of domestic violence.
- Mobilising the local community under the goal of ending violence against women and girls.
The unveiling of the White Ribbon Town Status plaque was held at Merthyr Tydfil Civic Centre by South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner, Alun Michael together with His Worship The Mayor Councillor Brian Mansbridge.
The unveiling was followed by the White Ribbon Football Event hosted by Merthyr Town Football Club.
