Safer Merthyr Tydfil in partnership with Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council are delighted to be able to share the ’Mental Health First Aid Kit for Young People.’ This resource has been created by young people on the Up and Coming Project and Merthyr Tydfil Borough Wide Youth Forum to help raise awareness of mental health issues and to offer support and advice to young people.
The project is designed to be used as a talking point around issues of mental health and emotional well-being. The film shows a collection of scenes from real life for young people and families in Wales. Like real life, there are no right answers or easy solutions.
As you watch each short clip, bear in mind these five questions:
1. What challenges are the people in this film facing?
2. Who’s having the hardest time?
3. What might they be feeling and what might they be thinking?
4. How might this affect their mental health and emotional wellbeing?
5. What help might they need?
You can also view the special edition Mental Health First Aid Kit for Young People magazine… A magazine FOR young people BY young people. With content created by young people in Merthyr Tydfil aged 11-25.
Each page offers relevant, current, interesting articles, quizzes, illustrations and ideas which focus around the theme of positive mental health and improving well-being, with useful tips and ideas as well as suggestions on what to do if we develop poor mental health.
