Football Tournament Goal to End Violence against Women and Girls on White Ribbon Day 2014
Merthyr Tydfil CBC with partners Safer Merthyr Tydfil is planning a Football Tournament as part of White Ribbon Day, 25 November 2014 that promotes men ending violence against women.
This event is a local response as part of a national campaign that aims to increase public awareness of White Ribbon Day and the local campaign that is encouraging men to make a stand against anyone being violent towards women. The local campaign has been kindly supported by ‘Ensinger Precision Engineering Ltd.’
From 5.30pm at Merthyr Tydfil Foot Ball Club, White Ribbon Day will be marked by a football tournament featuring adult and junior 5-a-side teams as well as a game featuring Merthyr Town 1st Team V a ‘Walking Team.’

Loudmouth deliver Safe & Sound at Cyfarthfa High School
With funding via Families First, Think Family Domestic Violence project, Safer Merthyr Tydfil commissioned Loudmouth Theatre Group to deliver the Safe & Sound educational package to Year 9 pupils in Cyfarthfa High School.
Safe & Sound is an educational package to help young people to spot the misuse of power and control in relationships and safeguard themselves against teenage partner abuse and is delivered via a whole year group performance together with interactive class sessions.
Safer Merthyr Tydfil delivers a healthy relationships programme to comprehensive school pupils in Merthyr Tydfil and alternative education provisions. Over 150 young people have completed the programme to date.
The healthy relationships programme examines
1. What is domestic abuse
2. Healthy and unhealthy relationships – how we treat others, sexual exploitation and warning signs
3. Media influences on relationships
4. Challenging opinions on gender stereotypes – the law and statistics/research around relationships and behaviour
5. The cycle of abuse, affects of domestic abuse and who can provide help and support
